It's almost holiday time, which means more "best books of the year" lists than you can shake a stick at. You may remember that last week we posted an interview with Sudhir Venkatesh, author of Off the Books: The Underground Economy of the Urban Poor. Now, Emily Bazelon has chosen Off the Books as one of Slate Magazine's "Best Books of 2006." According to her, it's "The Wire meets academia." Nothing we can say can improve on that succinctly brilliant description, so we'll leave it at that, saying only that if you haven't picked up a copy of Off the Books yet, you're missing out.
